Igor Mikeshin (@russianchristianity) is a social and cultural anthropologist studying Russian Christianity, its history, ideology, culture, and everydayness. In his talk, he will discuss the role and the ideological and theological position of the Russian Orthodox Church in the war in Ukraine.
“Most of the media reports on Russia, the war in Ukraine, and the Orthodox Church have a misleadingly superficial and simplified image of the matter. There is an understanding that the Orthodox Church is a leading ideological power, and the Patriarch is almost Putin's right-hand man. I argue that it is far from the truth, and the Church's political power is very limited.”
