JULIANA MARTÍNEZ FRANZONI is full professor at the University of Costa Rica and George Foster Awardee from the Humboldt Foundation for outstanding research careers in developing countries. Her publications have attracted attention from international specialists and are globally included as standard work on the Latin American welfare state. Juliana’s research of social policy provides a comprehensive view of the welfare state. In her second field of research, Juliana has focused on the interaction of labor and social policies. She has closely examined the feedback between women’s labor force participation and childcare and developed policy recommendations to reorganize carework in the context of welfare regimes in Latin America. A third field of research addresses the global South and led to a book, The Quest for Universal Social Policy in the South: Actors, Ideas and Architectures (Cambridge University Press, 2016), co-written with Diego Sánchez-Ancochea (University of Oxford). Her most recent work investigates whether responses to the pandemic have entailed opportunities for social policy change in Central America. The recognition of her work is also reflected in the prizes and fellowships awarded, including by Fulbright and the Kellogg Institute of International Studies. She is co-editor of the feminist journal Social Politics. She regularly works with international organizations and collective actors.
JULIANA MARTÍNEZ FRANZONI es profesora titular de la Universidad de Costa Rica y Premio George Foster de la Fundación Humboldt a destacadas carreras de investigación en países en desarrollo. Sus publicaciones han atraído la atención de especialistas internacionales y se incluyen como obra estándar sobre los estados de bienestar latinoamericanos. En su segundo campo de investigación, Juliana se ha centrado en la interacción de las políticas laborales y sociales. Ha examinado de cerca la retroalimentación entre la participación de las mujeres en la fuerza laboral y el cuidado infantil y ha desarrollado recomendaciones de políticas para reorganizar el trabajo del cuidado en el contexto de los regímenes de bienestar en América Latina. Un tercer campo de investigación aborda el Sur global y condujo a un libro, The Quest for Universal Social Policy in the South: Actors, Ideas and Architectures (Cambridge University Press, 2016), coescrito con Diego Sánchez-Ancochea (University of Oxford ). Su trabajo más reciente investiga si las respuestas a la pandemia han significado oportunidades para el cambio de políticas sociales en Centroamérica. JUAN LUNA es profesor titular de la Escuela de Gobierno y del Instituto de Ciencia Política de la Universidad Católica, además de ser investigador asociado del Instituto Milenio para los Fundamentos de los Datos. Sus temas de interés son los efectos políticos de la desigualdad sobre los procesos de representación política, la capacidad del Estado, y el crimen organizado. Obtuvo su PhD y magíster en ciencia política en la University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Es licenciado en ciencias sociales aplicadas (UCUDAL) y diplomado en marketing (ORT-Uruguay). Ha sido consultor de la OEA, CEPAL, PNUD, Segpres, IDEA-Internacional, y las fundaciones Frederick Ebert Stiftung y Konrad Adenauer. Fue profesor visitante en las universidades de Princeton, Harvard, Brown, Columbia y Sciences Po. También se desempeña como editor asociado de Latin American Politics and Society y de la Serie Elements Politics and Society in Latin America, ambos editados por Cambridge University Press. Es también miembro fundador de la Red de Economía Política de América Latina.
JUAN LUNA is Professor of Political Science at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He received his BA in Applied Social Sciences from the UCUDAL (Uruguay) and his PhD in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is the author of Segmented Representation. Political Party Strategies in Unequal Democracies (Oxford University Press, 2014), and has co-authored Latin American Party Systems (Cambridge University Press, 2010). In 2014, along with Cristobal Rovira, he co-edited The Resilience of the Latin American Right (Johns Hopkins University). His work on political representation, state capacity, and organized crime has appeared in the following journals: Comparative Political Studies, Revista de Ciencia Política, the Journal of Latin American Studies, Latin American Politics and Society, Studies in Comparative International Development, Política y Gobierno, Democratization, Perfiles Latinoamericanos, and the Journal of Democracy.
LEONARDO PADURA es novelista, ensayista, guionista de cine y periodista. Es Licenciado en Filología por la Universidad de La Habana. Trabajó quince años como periodista en Cuba (1980-1995) hasta que se convirtió en escritor independiente. Ha publicado más de 30 libros entre novelas, relatos, ensayos, recopilaciones de periodismo. En 1991 publica “Pasado perfecto”, la primera novela de la serie policial protagonizada por el investigador Mario Conde, saga a la que pertenecen, además, seis novelas. Es autor, además, de La novela de mi vida (2000), El hombre que amaba a los perros (2009), Herejes (2013) y Como polvo en el viento (2020). Ha obtenido diferentes premios y reconocimientos, entre ellos el Premio Nacional de Literatura de Cuba (2012), la Orden de Caballero de las Artes y las Letras de Francia y el Premio Princesa de Asturias de las Letras (2015). Es miembro de número de la Academia Cubana de la Lengua, y Miembro Correspondiente de las de Puerto Rico, Panamá, Costa Rica y México.
LEONARDO PADURA is a Cuban novelist and journalist. As of 2007, he is one of Cuba's best-known writers internationally. He has written screenplays, two books of short stories, and a series of detective novels translated into 10 languages. In 2012, Padura was awarded the National Prize for Literature, Cuba's national literary award and the most important award of its kind. In 2015, he was awarded the Premio Principe de Asturias de las Letras of Spain, one of the most important literary prizes in the Spanish-speaking world and usually considered as the Iberoamerican Nobel Prize.
RITA SEGATO es Profesora Emérita de la Universidad de Brasilia y una antropóloga y feminista decolonial que ha escrito extensamente sobre género, violencia, el sistema de género en la tradición yoruba, raza y colonialidad. Es titular de la Cátedra Rita Segato de Pensamiento Incómodo de la Universidad Nacional de San Martín de Buenos Aires y de la Cátedra Aníbal Quijano del Museo Reina Sofía de Madrid. Recibió el Premio Latinoamericano y del Caribe de Ciencias Sociales CLACSO 50 años (2018),el Premio Daniel Cossio Villegas de Ciencias Sociales del Colegio de México - COLMEX (2020) y el Premio Frantz Fanon de la Asociación Caribeña de Filósofos por su trayectoria (2021).
RITA SEGATO is Professor Emeritus of the University of Brasilia and a decolonial anthropologist and feminist who has written extensively on gender, violence, the gender system in the Yoruba tradition, race, and coloniality. She currently holds the Chair Rita Segato Chair of Uneasy Thinking at the National University of San Martin in the Buenos Aires Province and the Aníbal Quijano Chair at the Museum Reina Sofía in Madrid. She received the Latin-American and Caribbean Award of Social Sciences CLACSO 50 years (2018),the Daniel Cossio Villegas Award of Social Sciences of the College of Mexico - COLMEX (2020) and the Frantz Fanon Award of the Caribbean Association of Philosophers for her trajectory (2021).
