Registration for conference participant-observers and accompanying persons
Accompanying persons and observers not presenting a paper are welcome to take part in the Conference. All participants are kindly requested to register for the Conference by filling in the online registration form by 21 October 2018.
When registering you will be required to pay the registration fee, which is 25 €. The payment can be made using all major credit cards (Visa, Visa Electron, Mastercard), by PayPal or with Finnish online banking services. Registration fee includes admission to all the scientific events of the conference, conference materials, free Wi-Fi and coffee/tea during the breaks listed in the programme. Unfortunately this payment category doesn't include admission to the evening receptions.
Cancellations and refunds
If you need to cancel your participation after you have registered or make any changes, please contact the Conference organisers at fcree-aleksconf@helsinki.fi as soon as possible so that we can introduce changes to the Programme. Regrettably, we will not be able to offer refunds.

You will receive an automatic email confirming that you have registered successfully.
Technical problems
If you have any technical problems related to the online registration or payment, please contact Conference organisers at fcree-aleksconf@helsinki.fi.
If you need a certificate of your acceptance to the conference, please contact conference organisers. If you need a visa invitation letter, please contact conference organisers at fcree-aleksconf@helsinki.fi after you have registered.
The papers will be circulated amongst the panel chairs and discussants prior to the conference.
Roundtables will also last 90 minutes. Please be mindful of the time constraints and the fair allocation of time between participants.
The working language of the conference is English. Unfortunately, no translation can be provided.
There is a PC and a projector in every lecture hall.
The conference venue is the Main Building of the University of Helsinki (address: Fabianinkatu 33). It is located in Helsinki City centre in about one kilometer radius from the hotels we are recommending, from the main railway station, from the main bus terminal and from the harbor.
Please note, that although you can enter the building from the historical Senate Square side, it is more straight forward to use the Fabianinkatu entrance from where the route to the conference rooms will be sign-posted.
Unicafe student cafeteria is located on the ground floor and open Mon-Thu 8.30-15.00 and Fri 8.30-15.00. Bathrooms can be found on each floor.
There are some lockers at the ground floor lobby for small luggage and overcoats, and coat racks are provided in the lecture halls. Please note, that the conference organisers cannot take responsibility for the belongings of the participants.
Chargers and adaptors for personal electronic devices can be acquired at the registration desk.
Free Wifi is at your use during the conference. You'll find the username and password in your printed programme booklets. Eduroam is also available.
If you need any help during the conference, do not hesitate to ask at the registration / information desk on the 4th floor, or turn to any of our staff and student volunteers. You'll recognize us by the pink "Ask me!" badges. You can also turn to the university porters who have their offices on the ground floor on each side of the Main building.

Participants are requested to make their own arrangements for travel and accommodation and cover the costs related to participation. The conference organisers have secured block bookings at nearby hotels in different price categories for conference participants. If you would like to reserve accommodation on the basis of these agreements, we kindly ask you to book your accommodation well in advance as the number of reserved rooms is limited and deadlines apply. As the conference venue is in the city centre, there are naturally plenty of other options in addition to those listed below.
Hotel Arthur, Vuorikatu 19, offers single rooms at 115 euros/night and double rooms at 135 euros/night. The room rates include accommodation, buffet breakfast, wifi and VAT. Sokos Hotel Helsinki, Kluuvikatu 8, offers single rooms at 132 euros/night and double rooms at 147 euros/night. Eurohostel, Linnankatu 9, offers hostel-style accommodation situated at about 1,5 km distance from the conference venue. Please check for available options at http://www.eurohostel.eu/ and make your booking online.
University of Helsinki Töölö Towers, Pohjoinen Hesperiankatu 23 A (about 2 km from the conference venue) offers single rooms with breakfast at 95 euros/night or one bedroom apartments for two persons at 140 euros/night. If you plan to stay in Helsinki longer, the price for 4-7 nights is 336 euros (single rooms) and 553 euros (one bedroom apartment for two persons). Helsinki is the capital of Finland with more than 650 000 inhabitants in the City of Helsinki and close to 1 250 000 in the Greater Helsinki Area. It is a safe & lively city with great infrastructure including easy and reliable public transport.
Weather in Helsinki can be unpredictable in October, so please check in advance and prepare for anything from +12°C to -5°C — with or without snow!
Electricity: In Finland the power sockets are of type F. The standard voltage is 230 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz.
Water: Tap water in Helsinki beats most bottled waters. You can refill your bottle anywhere. It's a safe and ecological choice.

There're direct trains to the Central Railway Station. Just hop on either the I- or the P-train and get off at the last stop. The station is right in the city centre, near the University's City Centre Campus and its main conference venues.
The entrance to the train station is located in the corridor between the T1 and T2 terminals.
You'll have to buy a regional ticket before getting on the train as tickets aren't sold on the train. Tickets are available from:

The Central Railway Station is the final stop.
The Finnair City Bus operates between the Central Railway Station and the airport.
The bus 615 also serves the airport.
The bus stops for both arriving and departing buses are located in front of Terminals 1 and 2.
A taxi from the airport to the city centre takes about 30 minutes. The taxi stands are located right outside the arrival areas of the terminals.
Olympia Terminal is located at the South Harbour and there is a regular passenger ship link to Stockholm, Sweden. The terminal has an ATM, luggage lockers, a trolley rental, a restaurant, kiosk, and the Tallink Silja service point. Trams 2 and 3 stop next to the Olympia Terminal.
West Terminal 1 is located at the West Harbour and it serves ferries to and from Tallinn, Estonia. There is also a regular passenger ship link to St. Petersburg, Russia. The terminal has luggage lockers, a restaurant, café, kiosk, an ATM, money exchange office (open when the St. Petersburg ship is there) and the Eckerö Line, St. Peter Line and Tallink Silja Oy service points. Trams 7 and 6T stop at West Terminal 1.
West Terminal 2 is located at the end of West Harbour. There is a regular passenger ship link to Tallinn. The terminal has a restaurant, café, ATM, Tallink Silja and Eckerö Line service points. Trams 7 and 6T stop at West Terminal 2.
Katajanokka Terminal is located at Katajanokka, with a regular ferry connection to Stockholm and Tallinn. The terminal has a restaurant, kiosk, a money exchange, an ATM, luggage lockers, and the Viking Line service point. Trams 4 and 5 stop next to the Katajanokka Terminal.
The Helsinki region has an integrated public transport ticket system. This means that the same tickets can be used on buses, trams, the metro, commuter trains and the ferry to the Fortress of Suomenlinna (a popular place to visit whilst in Helsinki).
You can travel around the city with single tickets or with a day ticket. The tickets available on single-charge cards allow you to travel easily and at low-cost for 1–7 days. They are sold e.g. at the Helsinki City Transport service point in the Central Railway Station or at R-kiosks.
Please note that bus drivers sell tickets, but for tram and commuter train journeys tickets must be bought before boarding, for instance at ticket machines or R-kiosks. There's also a mobile application, which you can use to buy tickets.
You can also whizz around on one of Helsinki's yellow city bikes.
