Emotional labor and effort-reward imbalance.
The aim of this research project is to investigate and develop the work environment at Finnish nurseries and preschools. The focus is on the emotional effort of the early childhood educators and on how they cope with their emotional workload. Methodologically the project draws on mixed methods such as web-based survey and in-depth interviews. The intention is to develop a partly web-based professional support program and to investigate the effects of it on the educators’ personal accomplishment and on their work engagement. The expected outcome of the project is to prevent early retirement, absenteeism and turnover among early childhood educators.
