I am Postdoctoral Researcher of the Academy of Finland at the University of Helsinki, Finland. I received BSc from Haramaya University, Ethiopia; MSc from Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Norway; and Ph.D. in Social Sciences, Development Studies from the University of Helsinki, Finland. I am currently a Visiting Research Scholar at the American University, Washington DC, USA. The tile of my current research project is “Large-scale Land Deals for Agricultural Investments in Ethiopia: Implications for Local Livelihoods.” My research interests include displacements and resettlements, large-scale investments, land governance, environmental and social justice, state-society relations, social movements, and rural livelihoods. My theoretical and methodological interests encompass political ecology, political economy, philosophy of science, and mixed methods. I have published in international scientific journals, including Society & Natural Resources, Journal of Oromo Studies, and International Journal of Interdisciplinary Social and Community Studies.

I am currently a Visiting Research Scholar at the American University, Washington DC, USA (1 Feb-31 July 2019). The tile of my current research project is “Large-scale Land Deals for Agricultural Investments in Ethiopia: Implications for Local Livelihoods.”
