Welcome to the programme

Dear new Students of Integrative Plant Sciences,

Congratulations and warmly welcome to study plant sciences in Helsinki! As a young scientist, you will join the scientific community at Viikki Campus and learn about plants from molecular to ecosystem levels.

In scientific research, the Viikki Plant Science Centre (ViPS) forms a fantastic research environment that integrates basic and applied plant researchers and forms an internationally recognized research environment. Together, we will do our best in training our future experts in plant sciences.

Looking forward to meeting you soon!

On behalf of the programme,
Saijaliisa Kangasjärvi
Director

Your campus

As a student in the Master's Programme in Integrative Plant Sciences, the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences at the Viikki campus will be your home base.

There are four university faculties operating at the campus in the field of agriculture, forestry, bio- and veterinary sciences and pharmacy, as well as several independent research institutes. The campus has more than 6,000 students and employs nearly 1,900 people.

Helsinki Think Company brings together students, researchers and people interested in entrepreneurship. One of their workspaces is at the Viikki campus offering free co-working spaces, boot camps, idea accelerator programmes, hackathons, mentoring and a community of like-minded individuals.

The Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences also has biological stations at Kilpisjärvi in Lapland and Lammi in the lake district of Southern Finland, as well as the Zoological station at Tvärminne on the coast of the Baltic Sea.

Orientation and tutoring

The teaching officially starts on 4 September 2024, but you should participate in the orientation activities for the new students already before classes begin (Orientation week 26 August – 1 September).

You will be assigned to a tutor group led by a senior student, or student tutor. Your tutor will help with questions related to studying in our programme, give support with administrative matters and introduce you to the university campuses and facilities. This will make it easier for you to start your studies and life in Helsinki. Each student will also be assigned a teacher tutor with whom you can discuss your personal study plan and goals.

The detailed information concerning the orientation and tutoring will be published in the Instructions for students in the summer.

UNITalent Programme
