PhD researcher in Social and Cultural Anthropology at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Helsinki.
My PhD project concerns the ways and conditions under which the youth in Catholic and Polish-populated rural localities of North-Western Belarus imagines their personal and collective future. In the rapidly urbanising and globalising world, the capacities of different social institutions to influence values and orientations of the youth change substantially. It is precisely the social organisation of this change (always going together with attempts to preserve things as they are) what interests me in my research. In other words, what are the relations between desires, plans, and aspirations of the youth and traditions of their parents and grandparents - that is the core question of my doctoral research.
