The field of the first position is social and health care services. The position is located in the discipline of social work. The field of the second position is social and health care research and management. The position is located in the discipline of social and public policy.

The successful applicant may be appointed to a permanent professorship or a fixed-term associate/assistant professorship (tenure track system), depending on his/her qualifications and career stage. Further information on the UH tenure track system at

The tasks of both positions include research in their respective fields and the UHealth profile-building area, and participation in UHealth activities. The teaching tasks of the positions include teaching in the Master’s programme in social and health research and management, Master’s and Bachelor’s programmes in social research, and/or specialization programmes in social work. Knowledge of social and health care services, ability and willingness to supervise Master’s students who use various research methods (including qualitative research), and ability to supervise in Finnish are considered an advantage when assessing teaching merits. The positions will include planning and development responsibilities in the Master’s programme in social and health research and management or/and the specialization programmes in social work (welfare services).


An appointee to the position of assistant/associate professor within the tenure track system shall hold a doctoral degree, have the ability to conduct independent scholarly work and have the teaching skills necessary for the position. In addition, applicants for assistant/associate professorships shall demonstrate their capability and motivation as regards an academic career through publications and other means.

An appointee to a full professorship shall hold a doctoral degree and possess top-level scholarly qualifications and experience in the supervision of scientific research, along with the ability to provide top-level research-based teaching as well as to supervise theses and dissertations. In addition, the appointee shall present documentation of international cooperation in the field of research that he or she represents. Holders of professorships shall also have the skills necessary to serve as academic leaders.

To successfully attend to the duties of each position, the appointee must have good Finnish and English skills. In addition, the appointee must have at least satisfactory oral and written skills in Swedish. Foreign citizens, non-native Finnish citizens or citizens who have not been educated in Finnish or Swedish may be exempted from this requirement without a separate application. Most teaching and supervision in the positions will be provided in Finnish and a part in English or/and Swedish. If the appointee is not proficient in Finnish or Swedish, he/she is expected to acquire moderate proficiency within a reasonable time after the appointment. Support for language studies is offered.

• leading of scientific research
• international research experience
• activity in the academic community
• teaching experience, supervision of theses and dissertations and other pedagogical merits
