POST-DOCTORAL POSITION

The position is available in the group of Professor Jari Lahti at the Department of Psychology and Logopedics, Faculty of Medicine, University of Helsinki for a fixed period between 1.9.2021 and 31.8.2022.

We seek highly motivated and experienced postdoctoral researcher to join our dynamic research team on genetic/epigenetic epidemiology and developmental psychology. Our group is well-networked both nationally and internationally and our research has an emphasis on mental health and human behavior and cognition. Our work is based on several unique rich longitudinal large datasets.

Post-doctoral researcher will work in a multidisciplinary research project that studies the effects of prenatal exposure to environmental chemicals (e.g. BPA, phthalates, parabens, and organophosphates) on health and well-being with a special interest in the epigenetic mechanisms that may mediate and genetic variation that may moderate these effects. The project has funding from the Academy of Finland.

The successful candidate:
-Has a PhD degree in a relevant field of life sciences (e.g. psychology, medicine, biology) and/or biostatistics
-Is well-organized, solution-oriented and has an ability to independently plan and execute statistical analyses with R, SPSS etc.
-Previous experience in working with genome-wide genomic and/or methylation data in Linux cluster is an advantage but not mandatory
- Can start working with the data as soon as possible as the data are ready for analyses.
-Is a team player with good collaboration and communications skills and an ability to take initiative
-Has good spoken and written English

The salary level is based on previous qualifications, experience, and personal performance in the position according to University of Helsinki regulations. The Postdoctoral researcher’s position is level 5 (about 3180€ – 3570€ /month with a salary component based on personal performance) in the requirement level chart for personnel in teaching and research positions in the salary system of Finnish universities. The start date is negotiable, but the current project ends in 31.8.2022. All standard pension benefits and occupational health care are provided for University employees. There is a trial period of six months.
