Translational Research on Oral and Maxillofacial Sciences

Our research

We focus on the development of novel approaches for studying craniomaxillofacial bone diseases and regeneration. Through our wide collaboration with bioengineers, 3D printing/biomaterial engineers, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, and veterinarian specialists, we have developed a unique research platform that spans the gap between the lab/in vitro studies and the in vivo applications. We have developed preclinical large animal models for testing novel reconstructive approaches for craniomaxillofacial bone defects. We have been studying and characterizing the role of extracellular vesicles (EVs) as a novel intercellular communication mediators in both health and disease. Currently, our projects focus on studying osteosarcoma for novel biomarkers and druggable pathways related to its development and progression. Additionally, we employ the concepts of tumor engineering for developing a reliable in vitro model for studying osteosarcoma behavior and treatment response.
