Database

The REC database is a collection of datasets with long-term species observations in Finland for the exclusive use of REC researchers.

These data have been collected and are owned by the four institutions REC collaborates with closely:

  • Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE)
  • Finnish Museum of Natural History (LUOMUS)
  • Natural Resources Institute (LUKE)
  • Åbo Akademi University (ÅA)

These datasets have been curated into a single harmonised format by REC. This infographic shows some of the main metrics of this database. There are more than 200 000 unique locations with species observations. The density of observations is the highest in the past couple of decades, but some observations go far back in time.
