The ReproHealth group joins the forces of Juha Tapanainen’s and Timo Tuuri’s research interests: to study the development and function of the reproductive organs and early embryo development.

Involuntary infertility affects up to 20% of couples in Western countries, sperm counts have more than halved, and other problems related to sex development and function have increased during the last decades. One possible cause of these problems is fetal exposure to man-made environmental endocrine disrupters. However, the development of human gonads is surprisingly poorly characterized. The aim of our research is to increase the overall understanding of these problems and create solutions via modeling with human pluripotent stem cells (hPSC), in vitro tissue modeling, and clinical research.
