What do we do?
Our research focus is to understand the function of receptor proteins, specifically receptor-like protein kinases, and their role in mediating the effects of reactive oxygen species (ROS). One of our main topics is to understand the molecular foundation of receptor proteins and their ligands in plants. As a tool we use the model plant species Arabidopsis thaliana and Marchantia polymorpha. On the more theoretical side we are interested in the physiological significance of protein family expansion in various plants and non-plant organisms. We are also interested in understanding the evolution and phylogeny of post-translational modifications, including phosphorylation and polyADP-ribosylation in eukaryotes (including plants, animals and fungi) in general. We are part of the Viikki Plant Science Centre (ViPS) and belong to the Academy of Finland-funded Centre of Excellence in the Molecular Biology of Primary Producers (2014-2019). Our research is funded by the University of Helsinki and the Academy of Finland.
