Bioinspired and biomimicking surfaces

In addition to projects of direct relevance to drug delivery, we have also studied several other systems related to biologically active surfaces, biomimicking surfaces and lipid membranes. These include protein films, biomembranes and biofilms. For example we have determined the 2D crystal structure of films composed of hydrophobin proteins, gaining insight into the formation mechanism and behavior of this structure that is of both biological and biotechnological relevance. We have also developed important insight into the modification of various surfaces for biosensing, as well as utilized and provided general insight into biomembranes in the context of their use as cell membrane models for biomolecular interactions relevant to drug delivery.
