The gastrointestinal epithelium is rapidly renewed during normal homeostasis and regenerated after damage, requiring remarkable proliferative capacity and dynamic regulation of stem cells. We are interested in the crosstalk between epithelial and stromal cells during normal epithelial turnover and in gastrointestinal pathologies. We aim to uncover novel signaling mechanisms between epithelium and adjacent cells, such as fibroblasts and neurons, regulating the proliferation, regeneration and tumorigenesis of gastrointestinal tissues.
