Maker Culture and STEAM Education

Maker culture and STEAM education is a multidisciplinary research community. We examine teaching, learning and artefacts as social and cultural phenomena. We understand learners as makers and makers as embodied learners who are involved in creating new artefacts to ‘make a contribution’. These artefacts can be designed and invented products, conceptual tools, changes in organizational culture or actions towards ecologically, socially, and culturally as well as economically sustainable future.

Maker@STEAM community includes several research groups focusing on e.g. material and maker culture, design processes and learning, (developing invention pedagogy), learning in digital environments, teaching and learning, inter, cross and multidisciplinary topics of biology, chemistry, craft, home economics, mathematics, and physics.
