Professor Jan Klabbers is the head of the PRIVIGO project, Ukri Soirila and Sebastián Machado Ramirez have joined the research in August 2021, Tleuzhan Zhunussova joined in November 2021, and Rita Guerreiro Teixeira is the newest member of the team, joining in September 2023. Sara Rostam Shirazi is the research assistant for this project.
Jan Klabbers

Johannes Antonius Maria "Jan" Klabbers is a Dutch Professor of International Law at the University of Helsinki. He was Director of the Academy of Finland Centre of Excellence in Global Governance Research, based at the University of Helsinki, Faculty of Law, and former Deputy Director of the Erik Castrén Institute of International Law and Human Rights. He has previously held several positions at the University of Amsterdam, where he also completed his doctoral degree. Klabbers is considered to be one of the world’s leading experts in the law of treaties and the law of international organizations.

Ukri Soirila

Ukri Soirila’s research in PRIVIGO concerns international organizations as market actors. Ukri received his LL.D. degree from the University of Helsinki in 2019. Prior to PRIVIGO, his research focused on theories of international law, human rights, and law and political economy. Ukri’s first monograph, “The Law of Humanity Project: A Story of International Law Reform and State-making”, was published in 2021.

Sebastián Machado Ramirez

Sebastián Machado’s research at PRIVIGO concerns the redistribution of costs and benefits by international organisations. He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Melbourne (2019), and his LL.M. degree from the University of Cambridge (2011). Prior to joining the PRIVIGO project, Sebastian’s research focused on public international law, international legal theory, and the application of international law by domestic courts.

Tleuzhan Zhunussova

Tleuzhan Zhunussova’s research in PRIVIGO concerns international organizations and private sector funding. Tleuzhan holds a Ph.D. degree from the European University Institute and LL.M degree from the University of Edinburgh. Before joining the project, Tleuzhan was a post-doctoral fellow at Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies and NYU Law School. She also held visiting positions at the Max Planck Institute in Heidelberg, the University of Tel Aviv and the University of Passau. Tleuzhan’s previous research focused on the law of international organizations, human rights law and international environmental law.

Rita Guerreiro Teixeira

Rita Guerreiro Teixeira is a postdoctoral researcher, whose main research areas include the law of international organisations, international law-making, and international environmental law. Prior to joining Helsinki University, Rita worked as a junior researcher at the Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies. She obtained a PhD from KU Leuven with a dissertation entitled “How International Organisations Shape International Environmental Law through Non-binding Instruments: A Tale of Law and Authority”.
