20 years of study on employees' health and work ability

The study produces new scientific evidence about the contribution of work and other areas of life to health, functioning, and well-being. The evidence can be used in efforts to maintain and improve health and functioning also after transition to retirement.

The Helsinki Health Study project has monitored the health of approximately 9,000 midlife employees of the City of Helsinki since 2000s with follow-up surveys conducted every 5 to 7 years. The 3rd follow-up survey was conducted in the autumn of 2017. At the same time, the study was expanded to the entire under 40-year-old personnel of the City of Helsinki. The survey questionnaire includes questions on health and social relations as well as the working conditions of those who are employed.
