Forest Bioeconomy, Business and Sustainability

Natural resources are the basis for a just, resilient and sustainable future. We research and create new solutions for forest, bio-based operational models and businesses. Sustainable and just societal transformations, sustainable governance of forest and related natural resource-based ecosystems form the framework for our research and education activities at bachelor, master and doctoral level.

Our group strives for interdisciplinary research collaboration and teaching on forests and bio-based operational models and businesses. Sustainable and just societal transformations, sustainable governance of forest and related natural resource-based ecosystems form the framework for our research and education. We understand sustainability as a multi-faceted process of reconciling economic, social and ecological goals. In our research we adopt a systems thinking, based on the idea that each local action and business are embedded in a complex global socio-ecological system.

We apply mixed methods and interdisciplinary approaches. Our methodological toolbox includes both quantitative and qualitative approaches, such as economic and financial analyses, econometric analyses, life-cycle analyses, multi-criteria decision analyses, survey, interviews and Delphi-based approaches, systematic literature reviews, conceptual analyses, and case studies.

We collaborate with domestic and international partners, such as academic institutes, practitioners, companies and other stakeholders. Research funding comes from international and domestic bodies.
