The identification of risks in the use of natural resources

Developing efficient measures to protect the ecosystems in seas requires interdisciplinary approach. In such an approach, ecological knowledge based on marine biology and fisheries science needs to be integrated with information about human drivers which can be analyzed by social and economic sciences, and controlled by environmental laws and policies. Interactive and clever technical solutions aid in interpreting the accumulated knowledge. Finally, in order to be effective, this knowledge must be communicated to the stakeholder groups. The Fisheries and Environmental Management Group focuses on the interaction between ecosystems and human society. We identify the risks in the use of natural resources, carry out decision analysis between the renewable resources and biodiversity, and integrate the different sources of data and knowledge using Bayesian analysis. We develop cross-disciplinary tools in cooperation with other research groups and involve different stakeholders to our work.
