My main research interests are in atmospheric aerosol formation, anthropogenic aerosol emissions and their climate effects. I work between experiments and large scale models, producing parameterisations from existing measurements, analysing comprehensive multi-variable data sets, and comparing data sets from different parts of the world to each other and to model results. I am a co-leader of the Aerosol-Cloud-Climate-Interactions guidance group and the coordinator of the Doctoral Programme in Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Helsinki.

I am, generally, interested in Air Quality but have a wide interest about aerosols and their sources, transformation, and fate. Exposure is the ultimate goal in my research and within an international network of collaboration I am trying to develop models aiming at forecasting Urban Air Quality and assess the personal exposure (both indoors and outdoors). I am currently a Visiting Professor at the Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research but I am also a Professor of Physics at the University of Jordan.

I am a post-doctoral researcher with scientific interests in aerosol processes and their climatic effects, as well as meteorology in polar regions. Especially I’m interested in understanding different feedbacks in the Arctic and Antarctica. I strive to combine the small aerosols to large-scale meteorological phenomena in order to understand the interactions and connections between aerosols and changing climate. I have been teaching and assisting courses both in meteorology and aerosol physics at the university and enjoy sharing information about climate change to students and teachers at different educational levels ranging from kindergarten to high school.

Particulate air pollution has severe impacts on human health. Studying the sources contributing to the aerosol burden is an essential part for mitigating these effects. I am interested in the origin, sources and formation processes, of the secondary organic aerosol which contributes to the particulate matter in strongly polluted regions.

My research focuses on the interaction and exchange between the biosphere and the atmosphere. I aim to gain new insights into how various types of vegetation affect the atmosphere. I do this by investigating (1) the drivers for both induced and constitutive production and emission of biogenic volatile organic compounds, (2) how these emissions influence the chemical composition of the atmosphere, and (3) the formation and growth of atmospheric aerosol particles in forested areas. My preferred tools include both simple parameterisations and extensive process-based biosphere-atmosphere models - both which I develop and utilise in strong relation to field observations.

I'm interested in winds, vertical velocity and variations in them because we can use them to calculate turbulent properties which, in turn, help in understanding the different mixing processes within the boundary layer. I work mainly with Doppler wind lidars and develop applications and methods for them to study the boundary layer.

I am a PhD student looking at the early stages of atmospheric new particle formation mainly with the use of ion spectrometers. I am also involved in the the Pan-Eurasian Experiment Project (PEEX) communications activities. My personal interests are on science communication! Particularly climate and environmental science communication should be accesible to all, if we really want to codesign solutions for the challenges we are facing!

My main focus is on air ions. I study how variations in natural ionising radiation levels are related to the properties of charged clusters and particles in the ambient air. My current approaches are based on the ion balance method. My work consists of both ambient observations and theoretical development. I am also interested in ionising radiation and air ion measurements. As side paths, my studies are additionally oriented towards the investigations of atmospheric electricity and boundary layer stability.
