Instructions for course participants

The course leader will provide the main instructions for course participants.

The course leader will give you instructions about supplies and equipment needed during the course. Please note! TZS does not lend or sell scissors, tweezers, rain gear etc.


Course participants are accommodated in double rooms in the Student dormitory. When arriving during office hours 9:00 – 15:00, you can pick up the key from the reception in the Main buildings first floor. If you arrive in the evening, you will find the keys in the hall of the Main building. Front doors are locked in the evenings, you can ask the course leader for the code.

Please take linen and towels with you, sleeping bags can not be used at the station. Pets are unfortunately not allowed in the dormitory rooms. You can find a kitchen meant for general use in every dormitory. On your day of departure on weekdays, please empty your room and return the keys to the reception by 9:30 am. On weekends there is no official check out time, you can drop the key in the mailbox outside the reception.


Full board includes three meals per day, breakfast at 8:00 – 9:00, lunch at 12:00 – 13:00 and dinner at 17:00 – 18:00. Please inform your special dietary requirements to the course leader, also inform if you will not eat meals at the station’s canteen. Our kitchen needs this information latest one week before the course.

General sauna turns are on Wednesdays (18:00 – 20:00 men, 20:00 – 22:00 women) and on Saturdays (18:00 – 20:00 women, 20:00 – 22:00 men), and they are included in the accommodation.


You can pay the course fee at reception during weekdays 9:00 – 11:30 and 12:00 – 15:00. Please show your student card when paying.


If you are not able to participate, please let your course teacher and the station know about it as soon as possible. We will charge one day’s full board fee for non-notified cancellations.


Nearest shops, post office, restaurants etc. are located in Hanko (17 km).


Please note that the area around TZS is protected as a nature conservation area. In this area, sampling of material, plants or animals is not allowed without a permit. Fishing is prohibited. Whenever possible, walk along tracks in the area. Visits to islands are allowed only under supervision of course teachers.
