I study how ecological networks change through time and space in response to environmental variability and perturbations from e.g. climate change.
My postdoctoral project at the University of Helsinki focuses on climate change effects on plant-pollinator interactions. In order to address this task, I will simulate pollinator foraging behavior under varying levels of phenological mis-match between plants and pollinators using an agent-based model. Agentbased models allow conducting in silico experiments by, e.g. manipulating the number of pollinators and plants (wild vs- crop plants,) as well as their spatial distribution. Climate change scenarios can be incorporated by manipulating the availability resources and the synchrony/asynchrony of crop and non crop plant flowering in the model.
