We are now looking for a TRAINEE for Zoology Unit in the Finnish Museum of Natural History.

Finnish Museum of Natural History LUOMUS is an independent institute of the University of Helsinki. The museum’s duties are to amass, maintain and display its collections, and to conduct related research and teaching, particularly on biodiversity.

We offer an inspiring trainee opportunity, giving an overview of tasks, methods, responsibilities and career prospects in a modern natural history museum. You will have a mentor, and several colleagues to guide your training, to cover the breadth of collections from insects to other invertebrates and vertebrates, and monitoring data. Workplace is located in the center of Helsinki, and the trainee program will take into account the corona recommendations.

Your main tasks as a trainee are to support zoological collections’ curation, including specimen digitization and organization, as well as to participate in processing of bird monitoring data.

We expect you to have motivation and interest to work with zoological samples and its metadata. Knowledge on species, as well as experience in handling scientific samples and biodiversity data are beneficial. Good skills in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word) and proficiency in English are essential.

The duration of a traineeship is from September 1st to December 31st, 2021 (four months) of part-time (50%) work, leaving time for studies as well. The salary of a trainee is €700 per month for a part-time (50%) trainee.
