Become a HOH member

Helsinki One Health accepts new membership applications from the University of Helsinki researchers, who have a research interest in One Health - interaction of the human, animal and environmental health.

Membership is open for the group leaders, researchers and doctoral students of the University of Helsinki. The university faculties forming the core of HOH are the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, Faculty of Pharmacy and Faculty of Social Sciences.

As a member of the HOH network, You will:

  • Gain a double affiliation (e.g. Helsinki One Health, University of Helsinki AND Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Helsinki). This will be visible in the member Tuhat-pages as additional affiliation.
  • Be part of an interdisciplinary research community with vibrant new activities and meetings
  • Establish new contacts both nationally and internationally, both within universities and further to the industry
  • Obtain a facilitated link to the research collaboration with the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, University of Helsinki
  • Be eligible to apply for forthcoming HOH funding for different research activities
How to apply

The application form will be continuously open and available online. For inquiries regarding HOH membership, please contact HOH Research Coordinator.

HOH has three memberships depending on the stage of the research, with the following requirements:

1. HOH PI Member

  • A researcher with a doctoral degree and a PI status, affiliated to University of Helsinki
  • Research focuses on issues of One Health and is connected to (at least) one of the three research areas of HOH: Food Safety, Animal Health and Welfare, and/or Translational Medicine
  • Plans for future research directions towards the issues of One Health
  • Evidence of past and ongoing research (published in peer-review articles during the last 5 years)

2. HOH Research Member

  •  A researcher with a doctoral degree, affiliated to University of Helsinki
  • Research focuses on issues of One Health and is connected to (at least) one of the three research areas of HOH: Food Safety, Animal Health and Welfare, and/or Translational Medicine
  • Plans for future research directions towards issues of One Health
  • Evidence of past and ongoing research (published in peer-review articles during the last 5 years)

3. HOH Doctoral Student Member

  •  A Doctoral Student affiliated to University of Helsinki and belonging to one of the University Doctoral Schools
  •  Research focuses on issues of One Health and is connected to (at least) one of the three research areas of HOH: Food Safety, Animal Health and Welfare, and/or Translational Medicine

4. HOH Partner member

  • A researcher or expert affiliated to (working in) Finnish Food Authority (Ruokavirasto), Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luonnonvarakeskus/Luke), THL (Finnish Institute of Health and Welfare), HUS (Helsinki University Hospital); or conducting research in close association with the University of Helsinki.
  • Research interest focuses on issues of One Health and is connected to (at least) one of the three research areas of HOH: Food Safety, Animal Health and Welfare, and/or Translational Medicine
  • Plans for future research directions towards the issues of One Health.
