Philosopher Ilkka Niiniluoto to lecture in the USP programme

Philosopher and mathematician Ilkka Niiniluoto is one of the star lecturers of the USP programme. He will give a lecture on ”Philosophical and methodological issues of interdisciplinary research” on the 13th of September as part of the "Research methods" course.

Ilkka Niiniluoto is a prominent philosopher and mathematician from the University of Helsinki. He has a long and distinguished career in science and higher education administration. 

Niiniluoto has contributed significantly to the development of the university system in Finland and became internationally known for his achievements in the field of philosophy of science. He has also actively participated in public discussions throughout his career.

Niiniluoto was as Professor of Theoretical Philosophy from 1977 to 2014, Rector of the University of Helsinki from 2003 to 2008 and Chancellor of the University of Helsinki from 2008 to 2013. As an Emeritus Professor, he continues to strive towards a better understanding of the world. He is constantly inspired by opportunities to learn new things through teaching and research. Niiniluoto highlights researchers’ key role in society as explorers, who are driven by discovering something new.
