New paper out! Not all barriers for gene flow are stable through time, revealed by hybrid ants sampled ten years apart.

Project SpecIAnt is happy to present a new publication on speciation in wood ants & stability of barriers for gene flow.

We show that a proportion of candidate barrier loci in hybrids between two wood ant species are not stable after 10 years: natural selection seems to switch from acting against to favouring introgression. We propose that the instability of the barrier effect and natural selection for introgressed alleles could be due to environment‐dependent selection. Remember to consider temporal variation in your speciation work!
