The Future is Now: Science for Achieving Sustainable Development
The Independent Group of Scientists appointed by the UN has assessed the state of global sustainable development as worrying. The Group of Scientists has identified six key issues and the means necessary to improve the direction. The Global Sustainable Development Report 2019 was published on 11 September 2019 in New York.
Agenda2030 - next steps
In 2015, the UN Member States approved the Agenda2030, which contains 17 sustainable development goals for all UN Member States. In 2016, the UN set up a prestigious, independent group of 15 scientists to draw up a scientific assessment of the state of sustainable development in the world “The Future is Now: Science for Achieving Sustainable Development” -report to support decision-making and present an approach to guiding development onto a sustainable path. The report contains 20 recommendations for political and economic decision-makers, various institutions and citizens. The report will be submitted to the Heads of the UN Member States at the General Assembly on 24 September 2019 in New York.
