Doctoral defence: On the human impacts and governance of large-scale tree plantations

"Mass production of wood on private lands for private goods at the expense of collective goods tends to undermine the exposed communities’ capability of living the lives they have reason to value – yet the forces that keep such systems so powerfully in place may be difficult to change."

Arttu Malkamäki, MSc, will defend his doctoral dissertation entitled "On the human impacts and governance of large-scale tree plantations" in the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, University of Helsinki, on 11 December 2019 at 12 o'clock. The public examination will take place at the Porthania building, Auditorium PIV, Yliopistonkatu 3. 

Professor Coleen Vogel, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, will serve as the Opponent, and Professor Anne Toppinen as the Custos. Professor Vogel will also give a public talk in a mini-seminar on the 10 December at 14 o'clock at HELSUS hub (Yliopistonkatu 3).

The dissertation will be published in the series Dissertationes Schola Doctoralis Scientiae Circumiectalis, Alimentariae, Biologicae. Universitatis Helsinkiensis.
