The Academy recently elected 177 new members from the USA and 36 international honorary members. The new members are scholars from various fields of science, artists and societal leaders. New members in 2018 include Barack Obama, author T-Nehisi Coates, actor Tom Hanks, and jazz composer Carla Bley.
Martti Koskenniemi is a recognized professor of international law and human rights. He directs the Erik Castrén Institute at the University of Helsinki Faculty of Law.
