Aleksanteri Conference postponed to 2021

The Organizing Committee of the Aleksanteri Conference has decided to postpone the 20th Aleksanteri Conference, Eurasia and Global Migration.

The 20th Annual Aleksanteri conference was planned to be held on 21-23 October 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it will take place a year later, on 27-29 October, 2021.

—   In making this difficult decision, we have taken into account the ongoing global pandemic and the Finnish Government’s guidelines on hosting mass events, says Head of the Committee, Dr. Anna-Liisa Heusala.

—  We received a good number of proposals, but as we want to make sure that everyone has a safe and equal chance to participate, we saw it best to move the conference to October 2021.

A letter informing of the postponement has been sent to those scholars who submitted their proposals for the 2020 conference, and the best of care is being taken to avoid any extra inconvenience to them.

As a positive outcome, the conference organization now has more time to explore ways of developing the Aleksanteri Conference format. While face-to-face meetings remain an important part of academic interaction, possibilities for parallel interactive online participation already in 2021 are being sought.
