HSSH Institute Is Hiring a Methodological Expert: Deadline for Applications 3.12.

The Helsinki Institute for Social Sciences and Humanities (HSSH) is hiring an expert in project planning and laboratory engineering.

The Helsinki Institute for Social Sciences and Humanities (HSSH) promotes and coordinates research cooperation and infrastructure development in humanities and social sciences (SSH) at the University of Helsinki. This work is led by four university researchers at the HSSH’s methodological unit. The Methodological Unit brings together expertise in methodology and digital resources relevant to the collection, analysis and management of SSH research data.

To strengthen this unit, we are now looking for a methodological expert (project planner / laboratory engineer) for supporting research groups using biosignals, sensor-based and behavioral measures, and audio-visual stimuli. The position is a fixed-term position for four years, starting as soon as possible.

The role of the methodological expert is to work in collaboration with the HSSH Methodological Unit in supporting the City Centre Campus research groups in planning and executing research designs using biosignals, sensor-based and behavioral measures, and audio-visual stimuli as well as in the use and maintenance of relevant measurement equipment and devices. Depending on the competence profile of the methodological expert, the job may also include supporting researchers in designing web-based experiments using, for instance, JavaScript and HTML, and in writing and editing technical reports and research results for publication.

The methodological expert we are looking for has experience in research designs using sensor-based measurement (e.g. physiological sensors, eye-tracking technology, mobile EEG devices) and audio-visual stimuli. The expert also has good and versatile programming skills suited to work with the many device-specific programming languages.
