Wine Science Seminars go flying: a mini symposium on drones in plant and forest sciences
Drones are now ubiquitous in the environmental sciences. But what can they tell us about plants and forests?  I have brought together a panel of upcoming researchers associated with plant and forest sciences at Viikki to talk about how they use drones in their research and teaching. Short individual talks are rounded off with a panel discussion with talking points taken from a live Zoom Q&A.
Program:
Dr. Jon Atherton, OPL/Forest Sciences/INAR, University of Helsinki
Why drones are here to stay: the scale niche
Vicent Agustí Ribas Costa, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Spain) / University of Helsinki, Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, Forestry Department, Optic Photosynthesis Laboratory
UAS-based spherical (360) photography: description of the forest canopy from the inside out
Dr . Samuli Junttila, University of Eastern Finland
Drones in teaching and tree health monitoring
Dr. Pavel Alekseychik, LUKE
New approaches to UAS thermal imaging in boreal ecosystems
Mikael Änäkkälä, AGFOREE, Department of Agricultural Sciences, University of Helsinki
