Dr. Esa Pitkänen and Dr. Alexandru Tomescu are senior researchers holding docentships in bioinformatics at the University of Helsinki.
Pitkänen got his PhD at the University of Helsinki in 2010 and works currently in the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) at Heidelberg, Germany. He is about to return to Helsinki to start as a research group leader in the Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM), University of Helsinki.
Tomescu works in the Genome-scale algorithmics research group at the Department of Computer Science, University of Helsinki, where he came soon after obtaining the PhD degree at the University of Udine, Italy, in 2012.
The project of Pitkänen is about deep probabilistic modeling of somatic mutagenesis. Tomescu will study foundations of safe and complete algorithms with applications.
Congratulations!
