FORGENIUS, a new project to revolutionize our understanding of forest diversity

Pyhäjärvi Lab is a partner in a new H2020-funded FORGENIUS project that will help us gain insight into the diversity of European forests and their resilience to climate change

The project will use state-of-the-art technology and knowledge in plant and evolutionary biology, ecology, remote-sensing, genomics, genetics, modelling, and forestry. It will produce a platform allowing predictions of the fate of European forests in the short, medium, and long term. Such a tool will be the key to invent new, adaptive strategies to preserve these extraordinary natural assets at the continental level. In Finland the project will contribute in sampling and mesuring Scots pine (mänty), silver birch (rauduskoivu) and common oak (tammi) by LUKE and developing multivariate analysis of GCU adaptability and genetic potential in the University of Helsinki.
