Kick-off of the New Academic Year with Prof. Galit Hasan-Rokem

The research project Lived Scriptures in Late Antiquity kicked off the new academic year with the project’s academic advisor, Professor (emerita) Galit Hasan-Rokem (Hebrew University, Jerusalem).

The members of the research project Lived Scriptures in Late Antiquity: Ascetics, Martyrs, Miracle Workers (Academy of Finland, 2018-2022) met with the project’s academic advisor, Professor (emerita) Galit Hasan-Rokem (Hebrew University, Jerusalem) on Wednesday, August 28. The object of the meeting was to plan for a future workshop on the performativity of (biblical) texts. The workshop is tentatively scheduled to take place in fall 2020.

Professor (emerita) Galit Hasan-Rokem (Hebrew University, Jerusalem) is a specialist on rabbinic Judaism and gendered folklore. She has taught over forty years at the Hebrew University at the Hebrew Literature Department’s section for Aggadah and Folk Literature. Her research interests include: Poetics, folk literature, ethnography, everyday life and gender in Rabbinic literature. She has published many books and numerous articles in these areas. Professor Hasan-Rokem has taught and conducted research at leading institutions in Europe and the United States, among them the University of California Berkeley, the University of Chicago, and the University of Helsinki. Her last visit at the University of Helsinki was in Fall 2017 when she gave a lecture course on The Many Voices of Late Antique Rabbinic Texts.
