Ruralia develops animal health risk management

Ruralia has launched a new project designed to improve animal health risk management in cattle, pig and poultry farms through effective communication.

Fostering the Competitiveness of Livestock Farms through Improved Biosecurity is a project designed to promote the competitiveness of Finnish livestock production by improving animal health risk management in cattle, pig and poultry farms through effective communication in the regions of Southern Ostrobothnia, Central Ostrobothnia and Ostrobothnia.

The project utilises the latest research findings on disease control procedures, costs and benefits, as well as communication methods that have been shown to motivate producers to improve disease control.

The health status of farm animals in Finland is good when compared to foreign competitors. However, increased farm size and increasingly specialised production lead to increased movement of animals and other traffic between farms, thus contributing to the likelihood of disease outbreaks and related economic consequences.
