“Innovation in tendon medicine is an essential response to the urgent societal/economic worldwide healthcare demand presented by the growing incidence of tendinopathy. P4 FIT will train a new generation of 15 early stage researchers (ESRs) with the skills needed to explore frontier therapeutic and diagnostic solutions through exploitation of technological advances in nanomedicine”, says Professor Santos, from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Helsinki.
The consortium behind the project Perspectives For Future Innovation in Tendon repair (P4 FIT)) consists of the following six beneficiaries:

P4 FIT also involves 21 partner organizations, 10 academic and 11 non-academic institutions from across the whole Europe.
The P4 FIT consortium project brings together world-renowned academic and non-academic EU institutions, covering key basic and technological disciplines to launch a unique European joint doctorate. The inter-disciplinary, inter-sectoral, and international high quality educational environment will deliver innovation-driven training and research leadership, and grounded in excellence. “This is to widen the success in P4 medicine i.e. predictive, preventive, personalized and participatory, and promoting tendinopathy resolution”, Professor Santos says.
P4 FIT will enable cross-disciplinary working
Cross-disciplinary working will take place under the coordination of human and veterinary orthopedics with access to state-of-the-art R&D facilities to combine multidrug nanovectors/nanotheranostic devices with tissue engineering and new concepts of immune-modulation in the delivery of innovation. The translation of innovative nanodevices into integrated pre-clinical and vet/human clinical settings will deliver evidence-based datasets with reduced fragmentation designed to enhance the impact of biomedical discoveries. The simultaneous application of artificial intelligence and deep learning data analysis will offer a unique opportunity for identification of new tendinopathy-predictive biomarkers.
Working across disciplines and sectors, P4 FIT will train early stage researchers to be creative, critical, autonomous intellectual risk takers at the frontiers of research with the R&I mind-set necessary for thriving careers. P4 FIT will fill the EU gap in tendon healthcare, building a generation of researchers developing nano-based biomedical devices by integrating biology and technology innovation to the ongoing computational revolution.
Innovative Training Network supports competitively selected joint research training and/or doctoral programmes, implemented by partnerships of universities, research institutions, research infrastructures, businesses, SMEs, and other socio-economic actors from different countries across Europe and beyond.
