Connecting China and Finland
The Confucius Institute at the University of Helsinki is a non-profit educational unit. It promotes Chinese language learning and knowledge on Chinese culture in order to provide a platform for cross cultural communication and networking. The institute has an important role in facilitating multidisciplinary research on China including organizing academic conferences and supporting mobility and exchange of researchers. The Confucius Institute at the University of Helsinki also serves as a resource centre on Chinese issues, cooperating with schools and universities as well as public and private entities in Finland.
The Confucius Institute at the University of Helsinki was established in 2007 following the official visit by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao to Finland in September 2006 in connection with the Helsinki ASEM Summit. The agreement is signed between the University of Helsinki and the Renmin University of China, one of the leading universities in humanities and social sciences in China.
