Kumpula campus

Kumpula Campus, dedicated to research and teaching in the exact natural sciences, is perched on a verdant hill only four kilometres from the centre of Helsinki.

This idyllic campus comprises one of the largest clusters of scientific competence in the Nordic countries. The research conducted on Kumpula Campus is recognised as world class, and teaching is provided by successful scientists.The broad nature of the disciplines and vibrant international connections offer both a motivating atmosphere as well as a firm basis for interdisciplinary cooperation. The compact campus houses an active and creative scientific community of researchers and students.

Loc­a­tion, in­struc­tions and park­ing

Kumpula Campus is located only four kilometres from the centre of Helsinki. Kumpula is well connected to public transportation. Use the HSL Journey Planner to find your way there.

Parking is possible on the street.

Buildings

Kumpula Campus includes three buildings: Chemicum, Exactum and Physicum.

The activities of the disciplines are concentrated in the campus buildings mainly in the following way, but there are also activities in other buildings and on other campuses of the university.

  • Exactum: computer science, mathematics and statistics
  • Physicum: geosciences and geography, atmospheric sciences, physics
  • Chemicum: chemistry
Fac­ulty and units

Kumpula Campus focuses on research and teaching in the exact natural sciences. The Faculty of Science has a total of around 1200 employees and more than 5000 students.

Other or­gan­isa­tions at Kumpula Cam­pus

In addition to the University of Helsinki, there are many other organisations in the Kumpula campus area. Finnish Meteorological Institute and Traficom, Ministry of Transport and Communications, and several companies are located in the campus.

Services

Kumpula Student Services provides assistance to students of all units at Kumpula Campus. If you are interested in studying at the University of Helsinki, Admission Services can give you more information.

The campus has three Unicafe restaurants. The Physicum building houses a science library with collections covering a wide range of literature in the natural sciences. Helsinki University Library is located in Kaisa House, on the City Centre Campus.
