Research support services

The Biodata analytics unit provides concrete support for research groups in the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy and HiLife - Helsinki Institute of Life Science in three main ways:

1. Data analyses for research projects

Group leaders and other project PIs at the can submit a proposal requesting analytical support from our team via our project calls. These calls are announced 1-3 times annually, and have a very simple application process: a 1-2 page document describing the analytical need, the existing data, the project's match with the Thriving Nature profiling action and with the expertise of the Unit, and whether you (the PI) are able to cover part of the budget for the work. Decisions on project support are made within a few weeks of proposal submission. Our fifth project call closed in March 2023. The next call will likely be in August 2023.

2. Weekly Biodata Analytics helpdesks

Weekly Biodata Analytics helpdesksheld on Fridays at 9:00-11:00 on Zoom. Helpdesks are open and are intended for relatively informal discussions and guidance on data analyses. As well as staff, junior research group members, including MSc students, are welcome to visit. The Zoom link is distributed in our staff email reminders.

3. Discussion slots for Project PIs

Discussion slots for Project PIs usually held on Fridays at 11:15 on Zoom. Discussion slots can be booked by project leaders by email.
