University students and staff can access online materials acquired by Helsinki University Library via remote access with an off-campus computer.
Remote access via the Library's search services
You can access the Helsinki University Library’s e-resources from outside the University of Helsinki network through Helka database. The links to resources in Helka support remote access. You will be asked to log in with your University user account to activate remote use when you open the materials.
If you have problems activating the remote access or some online material fails to function properly, contact the Library via email@example.com or the chat service on the library website.
Remote access through a VPN connection
The library’s e-resources can also be accessed with off-campus computers through a secure VPN connection between your computer and the University network. The VPN connection should be used especially in cases where the material cannot be accessed through the links in the library’s search services.
If you use the OpenVPN service, select the OpenVPN hy option that allows you to access e-materials. With the OpenVPN hy-tun option, you will not be able to access library's e-materials.
More detailed instructions on remote access services are available in the IT Centre’s online guide on connections from outside the University.
