Neuroscience Center hosts state-of-art for imaging facility including three multiphoton microscopes for fast scanning 3D brain imaging and optogenetic stimulation in fish and awake rodents, as well as behavioural facilities for mouse and zebrafish and a neuronal cell culture unit.
Core Services
As part of Helsinki In Vivo Animal Imaging Platform (HAIP) IVBM Unit provides expertise in the methodologies of in vivo microscopy (primarily, two-photon microscopic imaging), animal surgery and data analysis.
MBPF is a state-of-the-art core facility providing equipment and professional assistance (including design, implementation, analysis and interpretation of the studies) for researchers interested in behavioural or neuropharmacological examination of the mice. MBPF is part of Comprehensive Model Organisms Platform (CoMO) and located in newly renovated Laboratory Animal Center (LAC) in Viikki campus.
As part of Helsinki In Vivo Imaging Platform (HAIP) Zebrafish unit provides full zebrafish services from generation of gene-modified fish to imaging facilities of live and fixed fish. The unit is a part of the international ZFIN network and European Zebrafish Research Center (EZRC) platform.
Neuronal Cell Culture Unit develops methods for the culture of primary neuronal cells and provides research groups in the Helsinki region with cultured neurons. The neurons provided by the Unit include embryonic rat and mouse hippocampal and cortical neurons, cerebellar granule neurons, peripheral ganglia neurons, hippocampal slice cultures, and neuronal and embryonic stem cells.
