The mission of Helsinki institute for Social Sciences and Humanities is to support multidisciplinary research networks. One element in this work is is a yearly round of open support for research groups.

The first HSSH-support for research groups open now and the deadline for applications is September 17, 2021 at 24:00.

The first round on this support runs with an exceptionally tight schedule, as the grants opened will have to be used during 2021.

Research groups can apply support for a variety of needs, ideas and cooperative initiatives. These may for instance, be support for:

  • acquiring necessary technological devices and systems that support the shared research infrastructure at UH, particularly in the center campus,
  • collecting new data that benefits several research initiatives,
  • developing solutions for further use and combination of existing data resources,
  • initiating new, innovative and cooperative projects that open new insights, relationships and aim at publishing such ideas,
  • building new international networks

As this is the first round for this instrument, we urge applicants to suggest also other ideas than the ones sketched above. The first call will also serve an important function in shaping future calls.

All research groups working in the field of Social Science and Humanities from the City Centre Campus can apply for the support. Primarily, this support is directed to initiatives that enforce multidisciplinary networking and cooperative work between UH research groups. Several research groups can apply together. In the first application round, maximum size of the initiative is set to 15 000€.
