Research

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has built a profile in the healthcare, treatment and welfare of animals as well as in food safety assurance. We focus on the interaction between the health of animal and human populations in a rapidly changing environment.

Research in veterinary medicine starts with a multidisciplinary approach. Our internationally esteemed research groups conduct both basic and applied biomedical research, the results of which are utilised to promote the health and welfare of animals and humans alike. Our key research themes include:

  • Food safety
  • Translational medicine
  • Zoonotic infections
  • Animal health and welfare

These research areas are combined in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine’s Helsinki One Health (HOH) network, which supports and coordinates research in these fields at the University of Helsinki.
