In terms of the number of students and teachers, the Faculty of Science at the University of Helsinki is the largest faculty of science in Finland. Our Faculty is founded on basic scientific research applied and complemented by the disciplines of geography and geology. Thanks to our solid research infrastructure and internationally distinguished researchers, our research is of a high standard. This is evidenced, among other indicators, by 1,649 scientific publications issued at the Faculty in 2019 and 13 ongoing top-level research projects funded by the European Research Council.
Among the Faculty’s strengths are also our wide-ranging study opportunities. We offer 8 bachelor’s programmes, 13 master’s programmes and 7 doctoral programmes. At the moment, we have 4,895 students. In 2020 the Faculty awarded 600 bachelor’s, 530 master’s and 80 doctoral degrees.
