Finno-Ugrian language studies

Finno-Ugrian language studies is a discipline that examines the structure and history of Finno-Ugrian languages, giving consideration to both the methodological starting points developed by general linguistics and the special characteristics of the material and spiritual culture of the peoples that speak these languages.

The term Finno-Ugrian is used in a wider sense, to describe both the languages previously considered Finno-Ugrian as well as the Samoyedic languages. Altogether these encompass the Baltic Finnic languages, Sami languages, Mordvinic languages, Mari, Ugric languages, as well as Samoyedic languages and similar

Finno-Ugrian languages and cultures studies the structure, history and use of Finno-Ugrian, also known as Uralic, languages. In addition to the methodology of language studies, the special characteristics of the material and spiritual culture of the peoples speaking these languages are another starting point. The discipline of Finno-Ugrian languages and cultures is divided into four lines of studies: linguistics, Sami studies, Hungarian, and Estonian language and culture.
