Welcome to the website of the discipline of Archaeology at the University of Helsinki. We are only a middle-sized subject with 7 core staff but are: research-intensive and both nationally and internationally engaged; currently conduct fieldwork in Finland, Russia, Bulgaria, Jordan and on Åland; teach a wide range of archaeological topics, from field methods and theory to environmental and scientific archaeology; cooperate intensively with other disciplines within and outside our faculty; highlight Societal Impact as one of our principles; and, by the way, are turning 100 years old in 2023!
