European Day of Languages
Join us in celebrating the European Day of Languages!
The European Day of Languages highlights the importance of multilingual and intercultural interaction. The goal of the celebrations is to encourage everyone to learn and use languages in various circumstances and environments. The European Day of Languages is officially celebrated on Sunday, 26 September.
The European Commission and the University of Helsinki Language Centre are organizing the main event of the European Day of Languages this year. During the week that the European Day of Languages takes place, September 26 – October 2, various events will be organized and materials will be published that demonstrate the importance of fostering different languages and different perspectives on the continuous learning of languages and interaction skills.
The events during the week are targeted at language learners of all ages, at everyone who is interested in learning languages, multilingualism, cultural diversity or cross-cultural communication.
Over the course of the week, learners can advance their language awareness and skills, as well as, for example, take the first steps in learning a new language. On Friday, 1 October, a virtual main event open to all, as well as a number of brief introductory language lessons, will be held. The events on offer include introductory lessons in the basics of various languages as well as lessons in communication skills. The lessons can be attended by individual learners or an entire class of learners sharing a device can attend together. There is no limit on how many lessons you can attend.
The introductory lessons will be delivered by Language Centre teachers as well as partners of the event. Participation is free of charge, but registration is required. Please get to know the selection of introductory lessons, the instructions for registering as well as the partners of the event.
