Welcome new TRANSMEDs!

Congratulations to our newly admitted Master’s students starting their studies in autumn 2021! The students, staff and faculty of the Master's Programme in Translational Medicine (TRANSMED) are eager to welcome you to start your studies with us!

Orientation and tutoring

TRANSMED student tutors will contact you soon after you have been informed of admission result to be available for your questions. Tutors will also help you in the accommodation to the Faculty, the TRANSMED programme and the survival in Helsinki in general.

Arrangements of the University of Helsinki Welcome Fair for international students are still pending. Depending on the covid-19 situation this might be replaced by information letters or on-line sessions. You will be informed later about this.

The TRANSMED study guidance and orientation for all new students starts on Wednesday 1 September 2021. This will be realized partly in class and partly on-line, you will receive the details later. This includes counselling about studies, teaching methods, assessment criteria and practices, ethical guidelines in studies, and the curriculum. Especially, you will draft your electronic study plan which allows you to register for courses.

TRANSMED courses start on 6 September 2021.

Preparing for your studies

If you do not have background in biology or want to brush up your knowledge, you can prepare for your studies with

B Alberts, D Bray, K Hopkin, A Johnson, J Lewis, M Raff, K Roberts, P Walter. Essential Cell Biology, 4th or 5th Edition Garland Science.

- later on, you can take an examination on the contents of the book and get study credits to be included in your degree.

Tal­ent pro­gramme for in­ter­na­tional stu­dents

The TRANSMED programme participates in the HelsinkiUNI International Talent Programme. It is designed to support international students in building professional networks in Finland and to gain insight into local working life. Students take part by attending monthly group meetings with a company mentor for a period of seven months. During the programme, the University Career Services also provide training in career management skills.
